Madame Sosostris

Madame Sosostris is a modern-day fortune-teller, but appears to be something of a fraud - she is unable to foresee her own "bad cold." She reads Tarot cards and produces horoscopes for middle-class ladies: although some of her cards do in fact have resonances with other characters in the poem, she is a pale imitation of the prophets of old.
